Descriptions of DJ AM Mixes
DJ AM – Power 106 Christmas Mix (2005). Part 1 / Part 2. AM was a rising star in the early 2000′s, but this mix from 2005 seemed to make his name more widely known. It caused a stir in online forums everywhere (especially the Serato forums) and got spread to everyone. Most people heard AM for the first time through this mix (including me). They finally got a sense of how this guy mashed all genres together, mixed quickly and flawlessly. From classic Rock, to club jams, and even classic Hip-hop shit. Amazing!
DJ AM – Live at Moomba – June 2002. Part 1 / Part 2. This is a “Pre-Serato” all vinyl live mix from AM in 2002, posted by his good friend and fellow DJ, Mike B. This style of mixing all genres together while playing a party is pretty much standard in todays Serato world. But here is AM doing it the hard way with all vinyl, back when not many people were trying to do this. Definitely the King of this style.
DJ AM – Christina Aguilera Wedding – 2005. Part 1 / Part 2. Interesting to hear how a big club DJ plays a wedding. Obviously, this isn’t your typical wedding. I’m sure it was extravagant and had a big, club type of feel with lots of guests and a big dancefloor. But still cool to hear some of the subtle differences in his style of play.
DJ AM – REDZONE @ Harlem Shibuya (TOKYO). (11/1/2005). Here’s another fun mix that’s 2.5 hours long with AM going all over the place. I’ve heard Japan crowds are heavy into classic hip-hop and turntablism, so in this mix you hear AM often dropping classic hip-hop tracks right in between pop tracks. Impressive mixing as always.
DJ AM – Lindsay Lohan’s BDay @ Concorde (2007). Part 1 / Part 2. Another superb mix showcasing AM’s party rocking abilities. Clever transitions and killer scratching.
Banana Split Mixes. AM started the Banana Split party in order to create a “house party style” vibe, allowing DJs to play whatever they wanted but going heavy on new dance and indie music. Turned out to be a big thing! Game changer for a lot of people as Mike B put it. Not only did he play these heavy indie tracks at Banana Split, but he often sneaked them in at mainstream Top 40 sets, breaking new ground always. As A-Trak put it, the “floodgates were just starting to crack”.
Live at Banana Split. (2/18/2007).
Live at Banana Split. (5/6/2007).
Live at Banana Split. (5/4/2008).
Live at Banana Split 2 Year Anniversary. (11/2/2008)
DJ AM – Live at Pure Nightclub. (1-25-2008). This is one of the most recent unreleased mixes that was pu tout by a good friend of DJ AM, DJ Kevin Scott. On his blog post, Kevin Scott goes on to explain that this was recorded at the 34th birthday celebration of Tiffani Amber Thiessen. Go read the post to get more insight behind this mix.
DJ AM – Old Navy Mix (1/30/2008). Part 1 / Part 2. Here’s a dope set of mixes posted by two of his friends. The first is a smooth indie/rock/pop mix posted by his friend DJ Eli Escobar on his blog. The second mix was posted more recently by DJ Kevin Scott. Kevin goes on to explain that this was recorded at an Old Navy event which featured a performance by Natasha Bedingfield. He released the first one many years ago because AM was playing stuff he really liked. Part 2 was more mainstream/party vibe.
DJ AM – Live @ WMC Miami. March 2008. This mix shows what AM does best… just straight up killing a party. Lots of great transitions and routines in this one.
DJ AM – Live @ The Do-Over. (6/22/2008). Like in some parts of the mix above, this mix shows AM playing some classic hip-hop and soul records. It was recorded live at one of the best parties in the country right now, The Do-Over. Its a chill Sunday afternoon party which allows DJ’s to come and play whatever they want. So basically, that real, no bullshit, good music! Most people know AM as a Top40 Club DJ, but AM knows that real hip-hop!
DJ AM – Shiro I Shiro – Berlin (09-09-2008). Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3. Here is another gig in which AM was more free to play some good classic hip-hop, as well as some 80s, soul, and current radio jams. Its more than 3 hours in total, so you hear AM go all over the place! Superb mix as always.
DJ AM – “Elton” Mix Series (2009). Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5. These are the last known mixes AM put out (that I am aware of). He posted them early in 2009 on his twitter account. He basically recorded these mixes at his house for himself, to vibe out in the car. So as you can expect, its filled with music he personally enjoys. Lots of smooth, chill indie and some classic jams. Probably a lot of stuff he couldn’t play out at his Top 40 gigs. Overall, these are beyond amazing mixes.
DJ AM & Jazzy Jeff – Deckstar Party in Miami (2009). Part 1 / Part 2. The last couple of years AM was alive he finally hooked up with his idol DJ Jazzy Jeff. They toured together across America doing 4 turntable sets with MC Skillz on the mic. This was one of those parties. Fresh to see two of the greatest party rocking DJs ever come together and rock out.
DJ AM – Mix @ Live 105.3′s BFD. (2008?). This is a mix of AM spinning at some sort of festival for a radio station (there’s a video of it below). He plays a much harder set than usual here, with lots of hard rock, and heavy electro. Seems perfect for the crowd, as you an see them go crazy with each track in the video. So much energy!!!
DJ AM – Mystery Mix. Part 1 / Part 2. (2007?). This is one of the mixes that made me really like AM and his ability to drop tracks I would never have thought of playing myself at Top 40 type clubs. At some point in here, he drops Sharon Jones & The Dap -Kings “Stopped Payin’ Taxes“. I lost my shit when I was hearing this for the first time at work! Almost got in trouble, LOL. Incredible mix overall.
DJ AM Virtual LAX Mix. Not sure where this mix comes from, but its about 10 minutes long. Some scratching and classic club jams.
DJ AM + Travis Barker – “Fix Your Face” Series. Always breaking new ground, AM teamed up with Travis Barker as a DJ/drummer combo to deliver music in a fresh new way. Nothing short of amazing in both these mixes.
Fix Your Face Vol. 2 (Coachella ’09). Live from Coachella 2009.
Fix Your Face Vol. 1. Studio Mixtape.

DJ AM – Oasis Routine. The infamous Oasis routine, an AM classic often heard in his mixes.
DJ AM & Travis Barker – Intro/Ring Of Fire
DJ AM @ LIVE 105.3′s BFD. Here is the video of one of the mixes posted above. Crowd reaction is crazy!
